We are Purposeful SL recently opened a BRAND-NEW girls space and thanks to @kaataminah we took our girls on a trip to check it out.

We were welcomed by none other than award winning photographer @hickmatuleigh (a former guest speaker at our school) who went out of her way to present her latest exhibition titled LET HER BE, which is an anthology of poems centered on women’s health and rights.

The girls also got to meet Maureen Jugu Lawson, author of “A Girl with Scars”, who recited and broke down her emotional and very personal poem. “I’m a girl. A powerful girl with scars, visible and invisible...”

Her words sparked deep reflection, hope and strength among our girls. They described the stories they witnessed as healing and very supportive.

It’s really encouraging to see initiatives like this in Sierra Leone.
