cycling training Vol. 2
Today marked a major milestone as we celebrated the successful completion of Keep It Fax Cycling Programme Vol. 2.
We began the ceremony by thanking God for a safe and successful programme and expressing our gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this initiative possible.
Our Project Supervisor, Ibrahim Sorie Sesay, officially welcomed everyone and shared the vision behind the programme to empower girls, build confidence, promote independence and equip them with lifelong cycling and road safety skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
We were delighted to welcome our partner, Pro Ratio Cycling Club, who reflected on the girls' remarkable transformation throughout the programme. From nervous beginners to confident young cyclists, the girls demonstrated determination, resilience and teamwork. The club also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting girls' participation in cycling and promoting the sport in Sierra Leone.
One of the highlights of the day was welcoming Lala Sidibe, a former Keep It Fax Female Speaker, She delivered an inspiring motivational talk, encouraging the girls to believe in themselves, remain resilient, and continue pursuing their dreams despite any challenges they may face. After her presentation, Lala joined the girls on their bicycles, riding alongside them together with our Project Officer, Adama Gborie, making the celebration even more memorable.
The practical demonstrations showcased just how much the girls had learned over the past six weeks. Under the guidance of our instructor, Mr. Jonathan Joseph, together with two participants, the girls confidently explained the different parts of a bicycle, identified bike sizes, demonstrated how the gears work and before putting their knowledge into practice during a friendly cycling demonstration.
The excitement continued with participant reflections as Zainab L. Koroma and Memunatu O. Bah shared their personal experiences, speaking about the fears they overcome, the confidence they gained and the valuable lessons they learned throughout the programme.
The competition segment brought plenty of excitement as the girls took part in a team relay race between Team Abibatu and Team Zainab, encouraging teamwork, communication and sportsmanship. This was followed by individual speed races for the Junior and Senior categories, where Kadija Kamara and Zainab L. Koroma emerged as the fastest riders respectively and were presented with cycling jerseys in recognition of their outstanding performances.
The celebration became even more special when Pro Ratio Cycling Club announced the selection of seven girls from the programme to continue their cycling journey through the club. Keep It Fax, Pro Ratio Cycling Club and the girls' parents will continue working together to support and guide them in this exciting next phase.
To conclude the ceremony, Certificates of Completion were presented to all participants, while Certificates of Appreciation were awarded to Mr. Jonathan Joseph and Pro Ratio Cycling Club in recognition of their invaluable contribution to the programme. Keep It Fax also donated cycling jerseys and cycling equipment to Pro Ratio Cycling Club to support future training and strengthen our partnership.
We ended the day with refreshments, laughter, and unforgettable memories. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Pro Ratio Cycling Club, Lala Sidibe, our volunteers, donors, supporters and everyone who contributed to the success of Cycling Programme Vol. 2. Together, we are empowering girls, one ride at a time.
